Ashtabula County MetroParks - Western Reserve Greenway Trail

The Western Reserve Greenway is a paved rail trail extending 41 miles through Ashtabula and Trumbull counties in northeast Ohio, roughly paralleling SR 45. Ashtabula County is home to 26 of these miles, stretching from the city of Ashtabula southward to the county line where it continues for 15 miles into Trumbull County. Mostly rural, Ashtabula County’s portion of the trail runs along farms and through abundant wooded areas. Many users tout the beauty of the thick tree canopy providing cool shade on hot summer days. Nicely maintained by a dedicated crew of volunteers, the trail is dotted with benches, intersecting road names and mileage are well-marked, and 12 interpretive signs along the way detail the proud history of the Underground Railroad in Ashtabula County. In the summertime activities include biking, hiking, rollerblading, and other non-motorized activities, while in the winter the trail is used for cross-county skiing and snowmobiling. Motorized wheelchairs are always permitted.

    D-Day Ohio Reenactment

    2017 D-Day Reenactment
    August 17th - 19th

Once again, D-Day Ohio, Inc. will invade the Lake Erie shores of Conneaut, Ohio and stage the largest D-Day (1944) living history reenactment in the country.  Featuring over 1,800 reenactors from across the US and Canada, spectators will witness men, women, and their machines perform a living tribute to the veterans of WWII through dress, mock battles, and living history displays.  Meet the real men and women that lived through these times.  Last year, we were proud to host over 150 WWII veterans and hope to have even more this year.

Come and be a part of this Admission FREE event and experience what people call the most realistic and educational D-Day reenactment of the WWII era.

The event occurs within the beautifully kept grounds of Conneaut Township Park, in Conneaut, Ohio.  Just off Interstate 90 (Exit 241).  Five miles west of the Pennsylvania border, Conneaut is just about half way between Cleveland, Ohio and Erie, Pennsylvania.  There's plenty of free parking with speedy shuttles.

Entry is free, but donations of any size are always appreciated as we are 100% funded by donations.

Though D-Day Conneaut is a very popular event, Conneaut Township Park has plenty of room to comfortably stroll around and see amazing sites.  Be sure to check out the gallery!  With an estimated reenactor attendance of over 1,400 reenactors from all over the US and Canada, there's little question why D-Day Conneaut has become one of the largest WWII reenactments in the country!

    West Liberty Street Covered Bridge

Clearance 15'0' (10.6 mi. from Doyle Rd. Bridge) The shortest covered bridge in the United States spans only 18ft. Its design is one of a kind. The structure is supported by a single Kingpost and its roof is a Scissor Truss which gives the bridge a lighter, open feeling. The roof has a more pronounced slope than a typical timber covered bridge. This, along with the extended overhangs, eaves and rakes, give the bridge a floating appearance. The bridge includes a toll keeper booth to remind visitors of pioneer days when travelers often had to pay for the privilage of crossing a bridge. The timber for the bridge was donated from locally grown timber. The bridge was modularly constructed by students on the campus of the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School.
