From Grapes to Glass

City of Geneva Fire Chief, Dale Arkenburg, stomps grapes at
the 54th Annual Grape Jamboree

Geneva has long been known for grapes.  Neighboring Harpersfield Township is home to dozens of vineyards and wineries of every shape and size.  In September 2018, Geneva will celebrate the 55th Grape Jamboree.  This street party infuses area businesses with the sweet bunches that grow so well in this region.  Grab a slice of grape pie at Mary's Diner or sip on a purple cow at Rees' Corner Store.

One of the area's most famous contributions to modern society is the work of Platt R. Spencer whose Spencerian Script is the foundation for today's cursive writing.  Mr. Spencer lived in Geneva and is said to have modeled the curves and loops of his script after the particular pebbles found on our local beaches.

Geneva connects two of the area's most popular tourist destinations: the winery district of the Grand River Valley and Lake Erie.  The corridor is lined with businesses of every shape and size.  Moore Antiques is an ever-changing collection of hidden treasures and collectibles.  The authentic Mexican food prepared at Luisa's is most appreciated in their festive atmosphere.  Earth's Natural Treasures is a health food market carrying a variety of products.

Spire Institute is an Office U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site and is host to several collegiate and regional events throughout the year.  Visitors are welcome to stop in for a daily pass to SPIRE Fit - no reason to skip your workout while on vacation!
