Jefferson

The County Seat
jefferson_sidebar
The Village of Jefferson is filled with history.  It has served as the county seat for Ashtabula County for over 200 years and the courthouse built in 1836 is still in use today.  The Giddings Law Office still stands, where Congressman Joshua Giddings and Senator Benjamin Wade, leaders in the anti-slavery movement, once practiced law and is open by appointment.  Down the road, the Jefferson Historical Society is housed in an 1876 church featuring original furniture and a research room.

The Historic 19th Century Jefferson Depot is a quaint village of historic buildings that brings life in 1890 alive by recreating experiences for groups and weddings.  They host several events throughout the year, including a Williamsburg Christmas with candlelight hymns, sleigh rides, live nativity, gingerbread, games and more.

Nowhere else in the world will you find a Victorian Perambulator Museum & Art Gallery, featuring hundreds of antique baby carriages and dolls.  The museum is a dazzling collection of vintage toys, clothes, books and antiques.

The Ashtabula Metroparks office in Jefferson manages 14 parks around the county.  The Village is also home base for the annual Covered Bridge Festival (held the second weekend in October) which has an office in the basement of the courthouse open to the public all year.
