The 9th District Luxury Suites

What to expect

The Historic Ashtabula Station (#237), constructed in 1938, served as Coast Guard barracks for 62 years. In 2000, the Coast Guard relocated to a new facility across the river due to the active coal conveyor and limited accommodations for women. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) then occupied the building until 2016. After ODNR moved out, the station remained vacant for four years. In 2020, Harbor Yak, a kayak and boat rental business, began operating out of the boathouse and expanded into the three-bay garage in 2021. Currently, the 9th District is utilizing what was once the main living quarters. Renovations on the interior have been underway since 2023, with plans to include four private suites and a small museum on the first floor to celebrate the building’s history.
