Pymatuning Valley

Where the Ducks Walk on the Fish

Pymatuning Lake is the largest inland lake in the state of Ohio and straddles the Ohio-Pennsylvania border.  This unique setting highlights the mystery of an old swamp forest and the excitement of a water recreation area.  For decades, this has been a destination for nature-lovers and is most known for camping and fishing.  It is one of the finest walleye and muskellunge fishing lakes in the world.

Pymatuning State Park offers countless amenities for a relaxing lakeside experience year-round.  Hikers enjoy miles of trails.  There are several active American eagle nests in the area, and unique waterfowl and songbirds are seen particularly during the spring and fall.

A 6-mile causeway across the lake connects visitors to a spillway on the PA side where carp are so plentiful that it is said "the ducks walk on the fish."  The water comes alive with moving scales and open mouths as hundreds of fish beg for pieces of bread tossed into the water by visitors.

The Annual Lake Festival in early August features good old-fashioned family fun.  Will you participate in the watermelon eating contest, the water balloon toss or the Oreo stacking challenge?  Enjoy pontoon boat rides and live entertainment all weekend with a spectacular fireworks show over the lake.

Need a recommendation for dinner?  Covered Bridge Pizza.  Yes, you eat in an actual covered bridge!
